Port Vintage 2018
165.50€
Port wine is the best dessert wine in the world. It is a fact known by all experts. However, choosing a Port wine is not always easy: some prefer Tawny wines, sweeter and with more wood, and others prefer Ruby Port wines that are usually more intense and fruity. For Ruby lovers, the Vintage category is undoubtedly
king.
The year 2018 is not considered a ‘classic year’ for Vintage Port wine but has generated, in our opinion, amazing wines some of which you can find in the pack.

Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port
Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port

As a recent Port wine producer - despite having a long history in wine making - the Quinta do Crasto has the advantage of not playing by the rules. This means that it does not follow that classic year declaration that bigger and older Port wine houses follow and declares production every year. This wine presents abundant black fruit and cocoa notes in a warm and comforting style. It pairs in perfection with chocolate.

Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port
Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

Fonseca is one of the most renowned Port wine brands, especially in the Vintage category. In classic years it is always among the best and, in the intermediate years, it declares as Fonseca Guimaraens which is considered its second brand. In these years it is also always one of the best with a quality close to that of the classic years but with the advantage of being sold at half price. This wine is typical of the "Fonseca" style, very generous in the ripe fruit of black and red berries, with notes of chocolate and slight mint. Creamy in the mouth, it gives an excellent tasting now or it can be kept for decades without problems.

Quinta do Vallado Vintage Port
Quinta do Vallado Vintage Port

Quinta do Vallado is another producer that in recent years has emancipated itself and started bottling its own brand of Port wine. A house of great prestige in the Douro valley, it is located at the entrance of the Douro region in a cooler area and perhaps this characteristic is reflected in the wine, which seems fresher than the previous ones, with balsamic and floral notes (perhaps a higher percentage of Touriga Nacional in the blend). Having said that, it maintains the typical core of a Vintage: ripe black fruit, concentration and powerful but tamed tannins that make it able to last for years in the cellar. For the impatient, now it accompanies perfectly chocolate and red fruit desserts.
