As your wine Fellows, it is our duty to love red wine. But not all reds win our hearts and we want to share with you the ones that do.

As you probably know, Portugal is a country of blend wines. There are dozens of red grape varieties used across the country but lately there’s one that has been standing out as one of the best: Touriga Nacional. A vibrant variety of floral aromas (violet and bergamot) along with wild black fruit.

Another variety that stands out is Baga but with a different story. Coming from the wine region of Bairrada, where it is commonly vinified, the Baga variety is a tricky one, only mastered by top winemakers to produce wines balsamic and with red fruits and that present a fantastic evolution capacity which makes it loves by more experienced wine lovers.

Lastly, borrowed from France where it is not commonly known, there’s the Alicante Bouchet variety. It was mainly adopted in the Alentejo region and has already become a Portuguese grape variety, producing powerful, fleshy and impacting wines.
