Our favourite wines from the Douro region

Recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage, the Douro valley is one of the richest regions in native grapes, with hundreds of unique varieties and a vast area of old vines and, perhaps, Portugal’s most known region in the world. The Red Douro pack showcases the region’s capacity to produce rich, aromatic, complex yet elegant red wines.

The pack includes Roquette & Cazes 2017, composed of the varieties Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca. It is the result of the joint efforts between the Roquette (Quinta do Crasto) and Cazes (Château Lynch-Bages) families. Touriga Nacional’s strong presence (60%) translates into a wine with a strong floral aroma (violet, bergamot) and very ripe fruit in a balsamic finish that gives it freshness and persistence. A wine that makes an impact now and, at same time, still has room to grow and surprise in the future.

Quanta Terra Grande Reserva 2015 is the second wine of this pack. The grape varieties that compose it are Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Touriga Franca. Made by a pair of winemakers with great experience and talent, this wine manages to be loved by anyone who tries it. This wine showcases a combination of ripe fruit, good acidity, ripe tannins and a creamy finish. We have to say this is one of our favourite wines that we’ve recently tasted.

Last but not the least there’s Pintas Character 2018 is a wine created by Wine & Soul, a project by Sandra Tavares and Jorge Serôdio. It follows the famous and well-acclaimed Pintas 2001, also coming from old vines and of huge quality. It presents a complex scent of black wild berries and cocoa and, in the mouth, it explodes in black fruits, with a lot of structure and tannins. It pairs perfectly with strong dishes and requests time for its appreciation.
